Advertisements are paid announcements that provide information about goods or services to the public. There are 2 types of advertisements: Print advertisements and electronic advertisements. However, I am currently discussing about electronic advertisements, which are advertisements that are displayed on television, computers or other electronic devices available.
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements help to promote and attract people to buy their products and educate us. Nevertheless, advertisers needs advertising strategies in order for it to be convincing, otherwise their efforts would be futile if people don’t buy their products. There are ways to attract people’s attention like the colours, size, creative languages etc.
Colours
What are the colours in the advertisements? Are they bright like red, orange, and yellow? Bright colours are normally used for advertisements that are less serious and livelier kind, so that viewers will feel joyful, happy upon seeing the advertisements. Bright colours also serve as a main attraction to viewers as the advertisements are shining or clearer to see. Bright colours also make images look more attractive. Whereas dull colours like black, blue, purple or even white, depending on the background colour of the advertisements, looks more of a serious type. They may enhance the suspense of advertisements that allows people to be excited to buy, see (especially for a movie). A horror may be a very excellent example. So colours do play a huge part for an advertisement.
SIZE
How does it play a part? It allows viewers to be attracted or neglect something important of an advertisement. For example, “terms and conditions apply” are often placed in corners of an advertisement with small font sizes, so that it will be neglected by non-observant viewers. For attraction purposes, they enlarge the font size to increase attention to viewers like “SAVE 50%!!!” or “Hurry! WHILE STOCKS LAST!!!” etc. Advertisers can also increase the size of an image like a product, celebrity, so as to make their advertisement look more convincing.
Creative languages
Dialogue is not necessary to promote a product, but it is essential if we want to make an advertisement successful. However, a dialogue has to be short and interesting. In a sense that it has to focus a problem and solve it using the product or they can have a series of rhymes, if possible to attract attention. On top of that, it has to be simple, easy to comprehend, so that people can understand. For example, a dialogue can be Singlish for a Singapore advertisement. Not only it enables Singaporeans to understand, it is also humorous, just like the anything/whatever advertisement.
Other techniques?
Advertisers can make use of sounds to attract attention or enhance the seriousness of the advertisements if its function is to inform/educate the public. Shocking images can play a part in it, to increase awareness in public.
Sometimes, advertisements leave out some important facts or conditions to promote their product, so consumers have to ask about hidden facts before considering a product.
So, there are many ways to advertise a product, as long as we use the right techniques with the right product or service.

ReplyDeleteColours in the commercials must be bright and bold because it can attracts the audience of looking/ viewing the commercials. If it is in dull and not attractive colours, will it attract the audience? Of course it will not. So the colour is very important. The colour white usually represents purity, innocence whereas black colour represents sadness, unpleasant and darkness. The background also affects the moods created. Example: Beach, When we are at the beach, it means the mood is very happy, exited because we are suppose to have fun there.
ReplyDeleteYes. Example: The texts that are meant to talk about the commercials or movies cannot be written at the place whereby the viewers or the audience cannot see. Or else, what is the point of writing the words there? They can just don’t write anything there. The words are there to give some descriptions of what they are trying to tell.
There is dialogue in the M1 commercials. The dialogue was funny at the part when the Indian man asked the customer (who called in) where he lived. When the person says the address was in Singapore, the Indian person was very angry and his expression and the way he talks was also funny. The title for a movie or product must be shown or else nobody would know what the movie is. When we read the title, we may know roughly what the movie or the product is talking about. The text must be easy to read because if there are so many words shown in the commercial, viewers or audience may not have even finish reading and it already has passed. The title usually appears at the beginning whereas the slogan appears at the end.

I agree with the previous comment, however some indians may view it as a offence rather than a humour. So, what i think is, M1 have to consider this fact that some people may be sensitive and thus they need to be sensitive themselves to prevent any unwanted discrimination.

When looking at commericals, we usually look out for the colours in the video as they are very important. Regardless of light, bright or bold. As long as, it can be outstanding from the background and attract our attention. The colours in the commericals does not always have dark and dull colorurs. Colours also tell us about the surrounding of the commerical and the emotions of the actor or actress. When the colour of the background is dull in colour, this shows that it is a sad but if the colour is bright and colourful, this shows that it is a happy and joyful video commerical. Nevertheless, colours can also affect the mood of the viewers. If the viewer saw a dull and dark commerical, it made the viewers feel that it is quite listless and not lively, making a sad commericals. If it is bright, it made the commerical more lively and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is reasons to the positioning of the objects, texts and actors etc. Some texts and objects have a different positioning to show the viewers what is the message trying to tell them. Or a particular character that can attract our attentions. We wouldn't be able to know if the actors were placed at the back and the texts seems to be meaningless. People will not tend to look at it, or don't really know what is the commericals are trying to tell them.
Dialogue does not always need to be use in commericals, but mostly we still see dialogue. Actually, I realised that dialogue was usually short and interesting. Not only that , it also bring out the important message trying to tell us. A dialogue does not need to be too long as people will tend to feel bore after listening . A good dialogue in the commericals can convery the message to us in a short, funny and interesting sentences that captures our attentions and even remember it. The title of the movie is short and easy to remember or read by people. Thus, they can promote their movie easily as it is easy to memorise. And also the title and the slogan of the movie will sometime appear at the last. Sometime, we don't really understand what the commericals are trying to tell us. By showing the slogan at the last will help us to understand better.
The M1 Indian Restaurant Ad, the character show a happy expression at first when someone is ordering the food in their restaurant as was shock when he hear that the buyer were from Singapore. His body language told us that he felt fooled as people from Singapore would not call all the way to Indian. The way he spoke to the others were very funny too.

ReplyDeleteColours used in commercials must be bright and bold to attract people. Dark and dull colours would not attract people because they are not very eye-catching. The colour of the background, title, slogan and characters is very important because they can be used to convey a certain message to the viewers, and to convey the correct message, proper colours have to be used. Bright colours like yellow, are usually used to create a more happy mood because people in a happy mood are more joyful, while dark colours like black are usually used to create a more serious or sad mood because people in a serious mood are more moody.
ReplyDeleteObjects, actors, and text that are important are usually positioned in the centre of the frame of a video because it would be in the centre of attention and viewers would be able to see it more clearly. Some texts are also very big to emphasize on the point that the video is trying to show viewers.
Some commercials have dialogue in it and it can make the commercial more interesting for viewers. Dialogue that are funny make people laugh and this might encourage people to buy the product. The title and text must be easy to read and to understand so that people would not get confused by them. The title and slogan usually appears at the end of the commercial so that viewers would be so captivated by the commercial that they ignore or don't really see the hidden messages in the title or slogan if there are any. Example, at the end of the M1 Indian restaurant commercial, it says "With M1 Free IDD calls to 15 countries, it's easy to get carried away." Viewers might think that the service is very good because it allows you to call to 15 countries, but they might not be able to see that there are more than 100 countries in the world, and that the service can only allow you to have free calls to 15 of them.

The colours used in the advertisements are uually all bright and they use a great variety of colours in other to attract other people's attention. Colours used in advertisements are not really dark and dull unless the theme of it is about something scary or something else related to it. Colours in the background are one of the most important component in an advertisements as it is the only think that would create the mood of the product or something they are promoting. Normally they use bright colours to show give the mood of fun and happiness while dark and dull colours only tell other people how dull the product/show is.The title normally gives the the movie or product the short description about it and the slogan normally gives the product or movie the effect of watching the movie or buying the product , it creates the feeling of buying the product and watching the movie/show. The character is also one of the most important role in advertisements as it attracts people by telling them that the specific person is in it, helping to advertise and it often tell other people about the the product/show from how the character dress and the character's facial expressions.
ReplyDeleteYes , positioning of these stuff meant to achieve a particular effect. The position must be accurate and it must be proportional for it to look nice. The size of the objects , actors a text within the frame of the video must be properly sized so that the objects would not overlap each other . Some stuff must be resized to something bigger so that it shows other people certain important parts of the advertisements.
For sure, there are always dialogue in the commercial. Dialogues are important as it often show how the characters talk and the way the speak to give us the mood and how other people feel about this product they are promoting. If the dialogues are funny , the thing they are promoting are most likely to be something interesting and funny.Yes , the title is most probably featured as without the title, people would not know whats about the product /movie they are promoting. The text is often easy to see.The text must be big so that people could see the interesting title and continue to read on the other things on the advertisements like the slogan ,characters and so on.Title and slogan usally appear on movies.
Movies need to feature more on the characters so title and slogans are the powerful component that allow people to carry on looking through the advertisements.Title is the one which will make people to carry on reading through the advertisement and the slogan help people know more and they would want to know more by watching the movie depending on how powerful and creative the slogan is.The M1 Indian restaurant Ad is persuasive and i will buy the product. The avertisements show how the Indian man talks and the facial expression makes me want to laugh. The slogan given at the end of the video is very powerful and creative so as to make people want to buy the product. It is funny in the way the indian man received the call from SINGAPORE to order something from India. It also shows how much you can call free to many other countries. They use Indian people because they knew Singaporean are often some how a bit racist and would be attracted to such a advertisement like this.
The Indian man's body language makes the advertisements interesting. The shocking expression of the indian guy made me laugh when he receive a call from other country all the way to India.
Powerful and effective advertisements often have objects with hidden meaning to make people make assumptions and would want to know more after buying the product that has been promoted in the advertisement.

Colours.
ReplyDeleteColours like red, yellow, pink, orange, are bright colours that make th advertisement less dull and less serious. However, colours like black, white, Grey, are dull colours that make the advertisement very serious n dull. Colours attract people to either continue watching the advertisement or change channel. If the advertisement is advertising something for a joyful occasions and the colours of the advertisement is black, dark blue, white, people would lose interest in the advertisement.
Size.
Positions of objects, text and people are important as they are used to portray the message that they are giving to the viewers. If th objects...text are placed everywhere, people will not be able to see the link of the advertisement to the objects and text and people. If the advertisers do not want them to know something about the product they are advertising, they usually would make the text as tiny as possible to not let the viewers see. If they want to let th viewers know what they are advertising, they would, most of the time put th text as big as possible to make it visible for the viewers so that they know what they are emphasizing on.
Creative Language.
Dialogues in advertisements MUST be interesting or funny to attract viewers. If the dialogues are too moody, no one will listen to it. Title or Text of advertisements or movies must be clearly shown and easily read. For movies, they can summarize the whole show with just one word as the title and advertisements can just use one word, a word that is not commonly use, to tell us about the product. If words like good, fantastic, bad are used to describe a product, not much of the people would have interest in it. The title or slogan should appear right at the end because, if they are playing a movie trailer or commercial, if they are interesting, people would continue watching and wonder what they are advertising.
The video commercial about the drink Whatever and Anything would actually persuade me to buy it because, i would be really curious on what drink is it in the can. The commercial about the M1 Indian Restaurant would not actually attract me to buy the plan of M1 because, not only M1 have the function to call overseas. To attract buyers, commercials would need to give the viewers curiosity so that they would be curious to know what the product is and buy it. If the commercial shows visible message, that would not attracts buyers because, they already know what the product is and why would they buy it if they do not like it. By making the commercials funny and allow the people to watch the whole commercial, they must at least have some part that is funny or conversations with Singlish so that youngsters would actually be interested in the commercial.
Other Techniques.
The body language is important. It is to allow viewers to understand the atmosphere of the commercial. Example. If someone says she is sad and have to facial expression or body language, who would know that she is sad. Like the M1 Indian restaurant commercial. The guy thought that the person that order the food is the local there, he was shaking his head, smiling all the way, this shows that he is happy. But when he realized that the person that call is not a local there, he shouted at the person, put the phone down and showed body language that he is not really happy.

Colour
ReplyDeleteThe background colours of commercials videos are actually something that captures the audiences’ attention. When we first look at the videos, the colour makes our first impression of it. Example, when it is bright and light in colour, we may think that the commercials are funny or something that could cheer us up; when the colour are dark and dull, it may be something serious or scary. The colour of the title may also give us a little information about the commercials. Not only the colour of the title 'help' commercials, in fact, almost everything (like games, movies), they add in some 'special' colour or little pictures to tell us more about the topic. Let me give you some examples. 1) A game 'Runescape'. They make use of stones as if the alphabet were craved on it. The stones are bright grey in colour, which gives us a mystery feeling. Hence, this may attract more people playing the game. 2) A movie called 'Kung Fu Panda'. Even though the words are not quite 'special', but they use bright orange and red. We can tell that this movie can cheer us up and help us release stress. The colour of the slogan and characters do have the same concept as I mention earlier.
Size
The positioning of an object actors, and text within the frame of the video tells how what they want us to focus on. Example, if the camera is always on the same view from the top to bottom, you will never get what they want to say, especially if they are trying to make you laugh or scare you. Moreover, the audiences might even switch the commercial away as they feel that it is too boring and find it meaningless. And, we must make sure that the object that we want to tell the audiences is something easy for us to see. Example, if you are trying to promote a bird food. You want to show that after the bird eats it, it is happy and hence, flying all around the place. Like you want to use a hummingbird, after eating it, and you take a far show as it is flying around, in the end, the audience might have trouble looking for the bird. This may pulls down the quality of the commercials.
Creative languages
There are some interesting dialogue in some commercials. They use short form words like, Singlish or even short form words that are found on the internet. The words may seem short, but it explain quite a lot of things, especially Singlish that only Singaporean understands. The words of the title are usually short but could explain a lot about the story. This is for the audience to have a deep impression on the name as it is easy to memories. The titles usually appears at the beginning and slogan at the very end of the.
Title does not really tell us what they want to say, the moral of the story. While the slogan gives us more information on the moral of the story.

The colours are dark and bold in the M1 commercial as India is a place which have quite a little bit of 'kampong' style. Thus, dark and bold colours are used. The place is at a busy street. This shows that the place is very thriving with people trading over there. The dark and bold colours shows the Indian man is quite serious when taking orders from the phone call.
ReplyDeleteYes.The camera only displays the Indian man answering the phone and not the person speaking on the phone shows that the person is not a real customer wanting to buy the food there.
There is a funny dialogue between the Indian man and the unknown caller. The slogan usually comes out at the end to create a suspense to the viewer. No i would not.The commercial do not display all the terms and conditions of the mobile plan and it only says 12 countries. We may not get the country we want to call. Some interesting things or free gifts included in the package may attract me to buy the product.
In the M1 commercial, the indian man was very fustrated at the unknown caller. He even said,"Butter Chicken,Package."This shows that the call was a prank. Thus, many would laugh at this commercial.

Usually people get attracted to things that are very unique. So to grab the attention of the people, advertisers should take the bright colours in consideration as these bright colours can give the people a positive impact on how different this product is from the others. If the colours are dull, it shows that the advertiser did not put in that much of effort to show off his product and let everybody to know about it and let them buy it. So the consequences of this will be that people will not even bother to look at the advertisement and see what it’s trying to promote. The background of the advertisement lets the viewer to feel scared by using dark colours or using bright colours to represent different moods. Even the fond or the way the title and slogan are written affects the way the viewer thinks about the advertisement as it also can create the strange or normal feelings. Bigger fond size can be used to represent that the viewer is telling the truth or it is the message the advertiser wants to convey. The way the characters in the advertisements act or behave can also show the viewer about how he wants to convey what he wants to say about the product. Example he might want to say that this product is unique, the character can think out of the box and act in a very unique and unexpected way.
ReplyDeleteThe size of the things in the frame of the video also matters as this conveys the importance of the things in that frame and the importance of the things actually represents the message the advertiser wants to show the viewer about the product. If one object or actor has been placed closer to the frame to show it bigger, the advertiser might want to show the viewer that that is the way of how you use that product or anything else. In the end it just makes it look more to the viewer. The text in the frame also goes with what I said about the objects or actors as it also gets the attention of the viewer to look at it when he or she looks at the advertisement first and that might be the message of the advertisement.
Creative language definitely means the way the dialogue speech is being delivered and how it actually grabs the attention of the people. Example in the M1 Mumbai advertisement, the catch phrase “Dai Mumbai da, India” means that he is speaking from Mumbai, India. He could have said it in a normal way, but that could not engage the audience, as it would not have been funny. The title should also be prominently featured as it will be ironic to use a different title for a different product and this will ruin the message it conveys. The title and slogan should appear in the ending of the advertisement as to create a suspense to the public on what its trying to show and during this period of waiting to know the title, there will be several thoughts in their mind of what that advertisement could be and this advertisement will last in their minds for a very long time. The way of how the advertiser shows the advertisement differently can also be persuasive and educate the people on how it helps them. The other information the advertiser can include can be the offers and advantages of buying their products.
The expressions of the characters in the advertisements shows the audience of how bad other brand can be (not mentioning any other brand names of course) and compared to their brands, how good their brands can be. The actors might look satisfied with this brand and show an expression of unlike to the other brands. By not revealing some information of the products like the disadvantages of this product of deal with this store can deceive the people to think that it’s a win win situation for both the dealer and the customer. This could be done to attract people to buy their products by tricking them to think that this product is very good or even to make more profit to themselves (dealers).

Firstly, we analyze the color as; usually the color of the commercials will depend in the mood of the commercials. For example, dark colors like grey or black will tell us that the commercials will not be very 'happy' whereas bright colors like blue and yellow means the commercials will be funny or 'happy'. Colors on characters, background, and title slogan will also affect on how we analyze the commercials. For example, the color of the background of an commercials may be dull, however if a person wearing bright clothes appears in the middle of the commercials ,it might suddenly gives us the impression that the commercials may not be what it seem. Bright colors on slogan or title in the commercials, may tell us that they want to emphasis on these few words. (maybe because they are important).however words that have dull colors means that they do not want to emphasis this on the viewer, as they may not be important, or it may affect what the viewer thinks about the commercials. However, they put it in the commercials, just because for the sake of it.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, we look at size. Though size may seem like a small thing, but actually it is quite important. Firstly because when a commercials appears to you, we would usually first notice the biggest thing on the commercials However, people might put some things in the commercials which is smaller in size. This might happen because maybe they might not want the viewer to see those things, and put it for the sake of putting it. Things that are big might be big is because they want the viewer to notice it, and make them use their product or services. The size might also want to give the viewer a certain effect. For example, if a character takes a bigger portion of the screen than the rest of the character might gives us the effect that the person is the key character, and we might want to focus more on him.
Thirdly, we look at the creative language in the commercials. Creative language is one of the most important part of the commercial’s usually the thing that keeps people watching the commercial is the creative language. However some commercials do not have dialogues, but still keeps the person glued to the commercial. Few points to take note when using dialogues is that it should be short and sweet, creative, interesting and it should be able to capture our attention. For example, the m1 Indian commercial uses an Indian accent which makes the commercials interesting. Dialogues, titles, dialogues or text should also be short and easy to read or memorize. For example in the m1 Indian commercial the Indian guy who took the call last words was with a funny Indian accent and the word was short and sweet. In the next few days after the commercial was played I would hear people say what the Indian guy said. Thus whenever we say in the commercial we would know it as the 'Mumbai India!' commercial. Form this example we can see that the commercial actually was a success as people could remember the Indian man last words. Title and slogan, is commonly place at the back of the commercials. However, it all depends on how the commercial was shown. Titles or slogans usually are placed in the back, because usually when the commercial was shown, you do not know what type of commercial is his, and if the title or slogan is shown in the front the sense of mystery on what is the commercial about is lost, making the viewer uninterested in the commercial. However, if the slogan is at the back, people would not know what type of commercial is this, and thus making they want to watch on and guess what the commercial is about. Usually, if the viewer still cannot guess what the commercial is about, the slogan or title would appear in the back telling them what is the answer. It also gives a viewer a sense of how the title relates to the commercial and then to our life which makes us want to buy or use their product. Usually things that does not persuade us to buy their products are usually not shown, or not easily visible.
Kweok Zheng Wen(20)
2-4 (part 1)
Lastly, the thing that we need to analyze is its other techniques. For example, in the anything whatever commercial, the gangster in the commercial was very irritated because of the cashier who did not give him what he wants. It would ruin the whole effect if the guy just blandly says he is much irrated. So, I think body language also plays a very big role. Other commercial techniques are background sound effects, or narrator’s voices which comes out to tell the viewer what is going on. Sound effects works, because it tells the viewer what is going on without actually showing it to them for example, the m1 Indian commercial will have the sound effect of people eating in a restaurant. Background sounds are especially useful as we do not need to see something but using the sound we can actually know what is going on. Narrator’s voices are also useful as it gives the point of view from a viewer like us. It can also explain to us about the commercial on parts that are unclear.

Video commercials. As we all know video commercials are in the category of electronic advertisements. Unlike print advertisements; examples, posters, elctronic advertisements consists of moving images. Electronics advertisements are now widely used as they are much more attractive as compared to print advertisements. In print advertisements, colours are used in such a way to make them look attractive. Example, if a poster were to inform the people that a circus is coming to town and perform, bright colours such as yellow, pink would be used to decorate the poster to imply the fact that the event is a happy and exciting occasion, thus, encouraging people to attend the circus. In another situation whereby for example a horror movie were to be shown through a poster, dark colours such as white, black, red, would be used. One example is the movie " The Ring 2 ". In the poster, the girl which is known to be the "ghost", is placed in the center of the poster, spotlighting her as black became the chosen background colour, indicating that her surrounding is dark. In the poster, white and black were the mostly used colour. Black being the background colour and white used to highlight the title of the movie, this poster creates a sense of uncertainty among the viewers, thus making them wanting to watch the movie to know more about it. In some posters, characters are shown, but sometimes their identity / face cannot be seen. This, thus, creates a sense of suspense among the viewers.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, the title of a movie, book, etc, are positioned at the top of the advertisements. This is done in such a way so that when people look at the advertisements, they would read the title first. Sometimes, the name of the author of a book or a producer of a movie, would be positioned right under the title; and sometimes, bold. This could show that the person might be a very well known person for the things that he produced, which in return have won many awards, thus, making people feeling convinced that the product that was advertised is very good. Sometimes, the title shown would be in bold to show a hidden message towards the viewers.
In most video commercials, dialogues are included, thus, making it much more attractive for the people to view it. Sometimes, dialogues are funny because they have a certain irony in them. Example, in the " Whatever, Anything Drink Commercial" , one of the gangsters said " Whatever" to the cashier man. What he meant was that he wanted to be given the drink, Whatever, but the cashier man did not understand this, and instead of giving the drink, he gave the man stuffs such as paper rolls, and toothbrush. In this video, the man got frustrated and angry and even sighing. This is funny because most of the time, gangsters would get the things they wanted easily, but in this case, the cashier man did not understood what he wanted. As most viewers would expect, the man would be in a rage and perhaps say vulgar words to him, but instead, he sighed [ as if he felt pity for himself] and this is quite uncommon among gangsters.

Basically, we are tasked to work on one of the two short video clips given, and we were chose to do the "Anything, Whatever" Soft Drink Commercial, hence, let us commence.
ReplyDelete1) Colour
a. Are the colours loud, bright and bold?
Yes, they are the shopkeeper who was wearing a bright-coloured shirt, the background, a shop, which is filled with shelves containing products with a higher contrast and one of the gangsters wearing a colourful shirt.
b. Are the colours dark and dull?
Yes, they are one of the gangsters who wore a black sleeveless shirt, with a skull on it, and the tattoos imprinted on the gangsters’ abdominal parts.
c. How does the colour of the background, title, slogan, characters affect the mood created? i.e. bright colours usually create a happy mood while darker colours are generally more serious.
Firstly, there are bright colours that create a lively surrounding of the “Anything, Whatever” Commercial where the scene, the shop, was mostly filled with shelves containing products that have bright colours; hence, this shows that the scene is very vivid, bright and attractive. Also, the shopkeeper was wearing a bright-coloured shirt, this shows that he is a cheerful and jolly person, and does not like the presence of ‘bad’ people such as gangsters or ruffians. Next, there was also one of the gangsters wearing a colourful shirt. His colour of the shirt contradicts with his personality, as gangsters are meant to be rough, wearing dark and dull clothes, but a gangster wearing a colourful cloth shows that he does not fit into an appearance of a typical gangster. Also, bright-coloured and high-contrast images, objects, etc. usually catch our attention the easiest, as we are attracted to the high light intensity of them, hence focusing on it, and lastly wanting to find out more about what is really happening afterwards.
The colours which are dark and dull happen to be depicted on the gangsters. One of the gangsters wore a black sleeveless shirt, with a skull on it, showing that he is not to be messed with and everyone should be scared of him. Next, both of the gangsters were heavily tattooed on their arms, chests, that are mainly dark-coloured and gloomy. This tells us that the gangsters are fearful and scary, making us feel frightened.
2) Size
a. Is the positioning of objects, actors, and text within the frame of a video meant to achieve a particular effect? Explain.
They framed the scene inside a small and tiny shophouse so as to allow the atmosphere to be more tensed and serious. When the gangsters came into the shop, they surrounded around the shopkeeper’s cashier desk, making the area occupied by the shopkeeper congested, giving him little space to move about. This setting makes us very serious about the gangsters going to harm the shopkeeper at any point of time.

ReplyDeletea. Is there dialogue in the commercial?
Yes, almost the whole of the commercial is made up of dialogue, except for the last part where the narrator emphasises on the product.
b. How is the dialogue engaging, interesting or funny?
In some parts of the commercial, the gangsters always change their tone; from loud to soft; to serious; to angry; and so on. This shows that their dialogue is interesting as it changes the variation of the tone, making it exceptional for us to watch and hear. Another part of the gangsters’ dialogue is that it is funny. The funny part was when the director of this clip directed the gangsters to use ‘anything’ and ‘whatever’ as words to describe canned drinks. This shows that the director is actually discriminating the intellectual level of gangsters, as ‘anything’ and ‘whatever’ are basic words that everyone should have studied before, but the gangsters in the clip compared these words to canned drinks.
The shopkeeper always has a tone and a facial appearance telling us he is scared of the gangsters throughout the whole video clip, when they demanded for their products, and hence the shopkeeper showed off an expression which is very hurrying and like a cat on a tin hot roof. This shows that he is in a way funny. Generally, showing off that funny-looking face would make people laugh; hence, people would tend to like his facial appearance.
c. Is the title (For a movie or the name of a product) prominently featured? Is the text easy to read?
Yes it is. Most of the time, the actors do simple movement which are noticeable to audiences.
d. When do the title and slogan usually appear? Why?
They usually appear at the last part of a video clip. The director might want us to anticipate the gist of the clip, allowing us to have the time to figure out what was actually going on, and then he would explain it at the last few minutes of the clip.
e. Do you think this video commercial is persuasive? Will you buy the product? Why?
In my opinion, I think that this video commercial is persuasive. I will definitely buy the product. It is full of twists and conflicts between actors, objects, etc. and makes the clip very interesting.
f. What are the other information present in the video commercial which will affect your purchasing decision?
Some of them might be the cost of the product, the credibility statements that people leave on the product, the brand of the product, whether celebrities or famous people use it, called celebrity endorsements.
4) Other techniques
a. What do the expressions or body language of the characters reveal?
They reveal the characters’ personalities and facial, body appearances.
b. Is any information withheld from you? Are some details left out intentionally?
They might have left out the weapons that gangsters usually carry, such as parangs, knifes, etc. so as not to cause any injuries during the filming of the clip. Next, they also left out the price of the product so as not to reveal how cheap or expensive it really is. Lastly, they left out the nutritional value, whether it is suitable for consumption of different age groups.

1) Colour is very important to any video commercials, because different colour affect what we think of the video commercials. Bright colour are usually use in video commercials as it makes us feel that the video commercials is probably funny or happy mood, thus a lot of people will choose to watch this type of colour movie, therefore it is usually use. Dull and dark colours are not use as usually as bright colours, as it gives us a feeling of unhappy, sad, serious and even scary (Dark and dull colours usually appeared on scary commercial.). The colours of the background, title, slogan, character also affect our moods. The bright colours of background, title, slogan, character usually creates a happy mood and sometime also show that the movie is maybe quite funny. The dark and dull colour of background, title, slogan, character usually creates a more serious, scary, not happy mood.
ReplyDelete2) Yes, positioning of objects, actors, and text within the frame of a video meant to achieve a particular effect. Objects, actors are usually put in the center as they are the main things that we look at when we watch a commercial as they tell the whole commercial, while text are usually placed below or above during the commercial and in a much smaller font, us it is to help those people who do not understand the whole commercials by showing they text to explain the whole commercials. Text also have different font, text that are more important or need to emphasis, usually appear in large font to catch people attention while text that are not so important are usually smaller.
3) I am doing the “anything” or “whatever” commercial. There is dialogue in this commercial. The dialogue are engaging, interesting and funny, as the two guys in the commercial are actually asking the shopkeeper for anything or whatever, when we first see we will think like what the shop keeper think, gives them money, but who know what they are asking for is actually a name of a drink, thus it is like verbal irony, thus the engaging, interesting and funny. The title is prominently featured and the text is clear, as it is large, placed in the middle and the colour is bright compared to the background. the title appear usually at the top or in the middle as the title is use to catch our attention, it is why we need to advertise for; to make people know about the title, thus it usually appear in the top or at the middle. The slogan usually appear below, as it is less important and it is to let people know more about their title, product, thus the slogan usually appear below. I think this video commercial is persuasive. I will buy this product as I am amazing that the two gangsters in the commercials actually give up the money that the shop keeper give to get the drink, thus the drink should be very nice, so nice that we can give up anything, including money, just to get the drink. The character affects my purchasing decision too.
4) They might hide the disadvantage of the product might be left out intentionally showing only the advantage of the product only, thus we must always take note of all information of the product before buying.

ReplyDeleteWell, colours play an important role in advertisements. It attracts different kinds of attention. For example, when an advertisement use dark colours, we would think of something eerie, sad, gloomy, or scary. When bright colours are used, we usually think of funny and happy things. Like in the anything and Whatever advertisement, basic colours are used for the background but they used bright colours for the gang leader's shirt.
ReplyDeleteSize:
The sizes of the fonts & pictures are important too. The bigger it is, the more it emphasizes the importance of the advertisement.
YES! Creative dialogue is used in both the Anything/Whatever & M1 Mumbai advertisement. It is usually the creative dialogues that makes us interested in the advertisement. Funny dialogues especially catch our attention.
The text used are usually easy to read, as some of us don't understand really big and difficult to read english words. The words are usually straight to the point. The title and slogan usually appear at the start or at the end of the advertisement to catch our attention.
I think that the product is quite persuasive as it really caught my attention!
The price and quality of the product will affect my purchasing decision as i would want something cheap and of good quality.
The characters in the advertisement reveal their facial expressions, their attitude, the way they speak.
Some details i think is that, the gangsters don't look so gangster-ish. They have the swagger but their appearance doesen't look like the part they are playing. I would normally think that gangsters would either wear black leather jackets with cool baseball bats or some guns and knives. I would like to know about more details of the product, like what flavours can be chosen from Anything/Whatever? What is the price?

1.Colour is important to the video commercials because different types of colours use will affect the viewers' thinking.Brighter colours will attract more viewers as it is more colourful. It usually let us feel that the video is funny or happy. Thus, more viewer will choose to watch this kind of videos.Other than bright colours, dark and dull colours are also often used.Unlike the bright colours, dark colours usually gives us the feeling that it is sad, unhappy, scary or spooky as they are used in scary or sad movies. The colours of the background, title, slogan, characters will also affect the viewers' mood. For example, titles or backgrouns in bright colours usually create a scene of happiness while dark or dull colours create a scene of sadness or something 'bad' is going to happen.
ReplyDelete2.Yes.Positioning of objects, actors, and text within the frame of a video meant to achieve a particular effect.Actors are usually on the center because it wants to attract more of the viewers' attention as they are the main characters.Text are usually placed above or below on the commercial. The title will be on the top and the font is bigger so that the viewers can see clearly the title. The slogan will be placed below of the commercial and the font size will be smaller.
3.Yes there is a dialogue in the commercial mostly the whole commercial is covered by dialogue. The dialogue is funny, engaging and interesting as the gangsters speak in a frustrating and funny way and the shopkeeper keep giving them different king of things as he can't understand clearly what the gangsters are talking about thus it was funny. The text is cleared and clearly show as they are bright in colours an the contrast with the backgroung exactly.the title will always be on the top of the commercial as it is to capture the viewers attention. The slogan is usually appeared below on the commercial as it is less important as it only convey the message.I think the commercia is persuasive enough to persuade the viewers to buy the product. The product is in a mysterious kind of design thus we will want to know what is exactly inside the product.Things that affect my decision will be the characters in the commercial.
4.The expressions and the body language of the gangsters show that they are frustrated by the shopkeeper. They might not show the disadvantage of the product. For example, they did not show th cost of the product or the places where we can find or buy this product.

ReplyDeleteIn my point of view, what kind of message is he expressing? Important or non-important? However, I would think that a slogan of a particular commercial is always important. Why? It relates us to the gist of the story, etc. in a commercial, while leaving us to think about the conclusion of it.

Advertisements are huge in the type of media it portray itself as. Many advertisements are shown to us persuade/get us to buy/do something about the advertisements; some are promotions (i.e: huge sale at blabla) whereas others provide us information(quit smoking, its bad for us etc.) that we can use/apply. Most advertisement generally tell us everything however some are deceptive and can lead to misunderstandings of a product as they show stuff people “Wants to know” and not the important “need to know”. A good advertisement should have a few of the following.
ReplyDelete1) Colour, aka the “MoodMaker”. Colours play an important part in advertisements as they show the gravity of importance for that ad. E.g Bright colours bears a lesser intensity of an ad, Colours like red/yellow makes picture more vivid, more action, more “enthusiasm” when it is shown. With bright colours being more alacrity and gaiety they prove more useful when used in a comedy rather than in a horror Bright colours are associated with humor as its impact it creates on the viewer is “lighter” and less sombre in most cases. Also bright colours tend to “spread over” a bigger area than dull ones. An example can be seen from the bean movie: http://www.clown-ministry.com/images/bean-the-movie.jpg
In this case the ad uses a yellow background over a black background because yellow is usually associated with happiness (a yellow smiley or Simpsons) and with a bright purple font that indicates sillyness and also contrasts the yellow background. These two colours highlight his sillyness through the boldness of the colours meaning his antics are bold silly and slapstick typed. A dull colour on the other hand “pinpoints” than spreads, meaning that a colour would be used throughout rather than have a bigger spectrum than bright ones. (bright colours have to accompany another bright colour to work well[thus explaining spreading] wheareas the dull ones work alone [pinpoints]or can work with another colour) Like the movie http://thecia.com.au/reviews/p/images/pearl-harbour-poster-1.jpg pearl harbour deep brown/black is used almost entire for the poster, deep brown represents the setting of dawn… a mockery of the land of the rising sun, after being bombed, surrendered. And black, showing the casualties and dark times they suffered fighting. However, there are in somecases ironies in colours, like dark colours being comedy and bright ones in horror, Inglorious bastards, uses the nazi symbol (red) being destroyed, this shows the irony of the once glorious Nazis being desecrated, also it becomes a laugh as the Nazis are hated for most people in history but when things are done right, they are the ones getting hit, it becomes a laugh for others. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1378256896/tt0361748
Another terror movie who uses bright colours, http://www.boomerangshop.com/dvdcover/imageweb55/ChildsPlayAnniversaryEdi1637_f.jpg Child’s play, we all remember the psychotic doll wearing bright overalls and having a bright title fonts, this horror uses bright colours for the doll as dolls are usually cheerful and nice looking however the doll is evil making a paradox of the film where the nice toys becomes bad.
2) Size, this too plays a important part for the film. Size of most characters varies on the message of the advertisements, in most movies the Main characters are the biggest objects, secondary to the title and slogans and then the extra characters, for poster of products, the product itself is usually the biggest , then the title then the text involved. For most cases the primary object must be highlighted before any others. Who would want to buy a bedsheet set when the biggest object in the poster is the freebie(say a free packet of rice) or see a movie of action like leathal weapon when the biggest object in the poster is a calafare cop. So size plays an important part to grab attention, people wants / hear something the like rather than unessasary talk/wordings/images. Also size affects the importance of somethings, like an Olympic advertisement, the track and field event would be bigger than say bicycling or equestrian as the market for the T&F events have a bigger audience than the laters. Likewise for other things like a Starhub type Phone plan page on a news paper, the biggest picture is the phone that is on the promotion period or are pushing this product, so older models maybe smaller or not shown at all.
ReplyDelete3) Creative language is usually an added extra to get that extra “must see/use” in the consumers mind. Like the Mr bean ad, “One man, One masterpiece, One big Mistake” people would want to see whats the masterpiece or the big mistake bean would have done, Or the Child’s Play dvd box, it has a “chucky’s 20th birthday edition” this makes people want to get the item, it being a collectable people who are supporters would want to get it to collect or to keep and sell later. Usually the gravity of the ads also affects the text used, people selectively use texts that are big and huge to support the seriousness, or use words that are easy to understand for products and they make the words sound playful when they use it for comedies. Like what I mentioned above the placement of slogans are key to the number of consumers it grabs, placing it in a place where the consumers can see at a glance puts it at a disadvantage, as people when attracted to slogans/ images would want to see more. If it is small and can’t be seen easily people might have to look harder for it, Also slogans usually takes a space of its own, there are’nt placed over images or pictures to not confuse readers/viewers and are as striking as the title itself. Some posters also use testimonials or reviews to make people watch/buy their product.
4) Some people intentionally leave out some crucial information that can affect a buyers decision, imagine if a vacuum cleaner that sucks everything with ease but breaks down almost 2twice a month sells at 129.99 they would possibly leave out the parts where the
Vacuum breaks down quickly to clear their stocks, Motives vary for different advertising groups some can be positive like “Don’t mock it till you try it” type of product usually leaves the customers guessing and sometimes buying the product to experience the wonders it does. Other things like the characters type of speech would give it a comical/ tragic effect, like stereotyping other races accent like Indians/ Chinese people can give it a more humorous effect whereas a message from the president would usually be solemn and more serious.
The next post will involve the analysis of the video my group did, the M1 Ad,
ReplyDelete1) Colours, Set in an bustling Indian street, the Indian restaurant has a spectrum of colours from dazzling orange to natural brown. The walls is decorated with Indian decoration and pictures of various Indian deities. It also shows the vibrant arrangements of colours, in the add, this may have two meanings, 1) to show a typical Indian restaurant 2) to boost its tourism(India’s colour festival) At the end orange text is shown to showcase M1’s trademark colour.
2) This ad has been taken at various angles to prevent the advertisement to look boring, at different angles the man answering the phone looks different sometimes he’s at the back sometimes he’s at the front this may show the speech is not as dull as It seems. People who move and talk seems to be very engaged and focused in their call, however they cant portray that with a corded phone and have to use angles of shot to show his seriousness in work.
3) Creative language in this case is the dialogue with the person on the other end of the phone, though we can only here 1 side of the call we can interpret the what he might answer, in this case the man wants to order food from the stall, and first is greeted with happiness type of tone, however he is rejected as the seller tells him its only sold in india. Also another creative language here is Ironies in play, a situational irony for the Indian seller, “We Deliver EVERYWHERE!” shows his keenness when getting business, “What another country?!? Eh Mumbai dah india!?!” shows contradiction of his first statement. This is also a stereotype for Indians in india. Portraying Indians wants business but does’nt take the initiative. Thus the Indians from Indian are shown in a bad light. The text used at the end shows free idd calls to 15 countries, this maybe a lot however when there’s 100+ countries this is only a mere 10% of the globe. Thus this is mainly targeted at people who needs to call to neighbouring countries. The title and slogan appears only at the end as they want to distract people with that ad, causing them into a laugh and uplift their mood so when the 3seconds of title flashes they tend to forget any hidden T&C. The video in this case is not really persuasive towards people of our age as we do not have anyone else living outside Singapore we need to contact everyday for hours. However for people that are expatriates or immigrants they would want a free idd call service rather than paying more for over use. People like Bangladeshi workers would buy it as the slogan get carried away shows that its easy to call outside Singapore. I would need to know if there are any hidden catches if we are not to fall for marketing scams, like charging 70dollars a month for that service per country etc..
4) Other techniques in the adverts show the posture of how the Indian man reacts to the customer, firstly he answers with a jovial tone , accepting any type of sales he can get, however when the customers ask for it to be delivered outside the country his expression sours as he knows it’s a expectation he could not deliver. He stands as if there were springs in his steps at first however when he knew he got pranked, he slouches and becomes annoyed “Singapore butter chicken parcel..” Other infos left out should be included as they can cause future problems with the company if left unexplained.
1)Colour
ReplyDelete-Bright colours are usually used for happy commercials as it brings out the happiness of the actors. If the letters of the titles is big, bold and bright. It gives us the impression that it is a comedic or happy commercial.
-Dull colours are usually for serious commercials.Even though it is dull, it brings out the seriousness of the person. It also brings out the emotions of the person for example,if the commercial is about someone who had died, it will bring out the sadness of the person. If the words is dull, it is a possiblity that it is a scary commercial. It can also be a serious commercial.
2)size
-The director usually will zoom in to an object or person to create the importance of that thing. This is to grab the attention of the viewiers and create an awareness. But this is usually for serious commercial as it will educate the viewers. For funny commercials, they will zoom in on things that will make people laugh when they see it and make them laugh even more when it is zoom it.
3)Creative language
-There are dialogue in commercials.Dialogue add more humour to the commercial. They sometimes will use funny accents for the dialogue like the M1 Indian commercial. It will make others laugh but the indian might be offended but i am sure that they will understand that it has nothing to do with racism.Dialogue can help the comercial to be serious. The words chosen for a serious dialogue play an important role.It will determine the how serious the commercial is.
-Title and slogans will usually appears at the end or the starting of the commercial. It will either summarise the commercial or tell the viewers what is the commercial about.
-To persuade customers into buying a product depends on the features of the commercial.Customers usually buy products that has special offers , celebrites endorsement and interesting facts.

1) Colour
ReplyDeleteColours play an important role in commercials. The different colours shows different moods for the commercial. If the commercial consists lots of bright colours, it usually means that it is showing a bustling/crowded scene in a happy mood. It gives us an impression that if we purchase the advertised product, we will be as happy as the people in the commercial. It will leave the viewer an impression that the product works well and does not give the user any trouble. When dull colours are used in commercials, it interprets that the commercial be taken seriously by the viewer rather than ignored. The advertisers use dull colours like black and grey to make an impression that it is serious. It could be used for a horror movie and dull colours can be used to give the viewer a little scare. It could be used in a tribute to a dead, famous person so that the viewer can feel a tinge of sorrow through the colours used. It could be used for gambling/smoking awareness campaigns, showing how important it is to control ourselves and not bring harm to the ones around us. Dull colours can also give viewers an eerie feeling when properly applied.
2) Size
The different positions of the recorder can portray different settings and effects in a video. The brain is functioned to concentrate on the larger things that we see instead of the smaller stuff found on images. We tend to ignore tiny stuff in the videos or images we see. This is why advertisers emphasize on the main product they are advertising for. The tend to place the main character in the middle or make them look larger so that they are more significant and we will listen to what they are saying. If words in the video are too big, it will block the viewer from viewing the video and understanding it. If the words are too small, the viewer will not notice what is written and will ignore what is written. Therefore, the size of words must be proportionate so that viewers will know the importance of the words written. Advertisers like to show the great deals they are offering to attract potential buyers to be attracted and find out more about the advertised product. They might show "50% Off on Products" with a size 48 font and write "Terms and Conditions apply" at the corner of the advertisement with a size 8 font.
3) Creative language
Although not vital in commercials, dialogues in commercials tend to interest the viewer more than just narration in the whole commercial. It can inject emotions into the commercial and show when it should be taken seriously. Accents also play a part as they can be weird to a certain group of people and make them gain interest in the product advertised. Dialogues attract more attention than simple narration. It would be best if the targeted viewers e.g. Singaporeans, understand what the commercial mean. Dialogues have to be clear, in both the pronunciation and meaning wise. If it isn't, the viewer will probably not even understand the message the commercial is conveying. Titles and slogans usually appear at the start and end of commercials. If found at the start, it tends to give the viewer a subject where they can predict what will be the product which is going to be advertised. If found at the end, it usually tells the viewers what the commercial is trying to convey through the advertisement or summarise and conclude on what the advertisers think the viewers should do after viewing the commercial. If commercials are persuasive, they can get more customers as some people do not bother checking out the specifications and features of the products. Potential customers should check out what are the terms and conditions applied to the product before even considering whether they should purchase the product.
4) Other techniques
ReplyDeleteBody languages and facial expressions show how the main characters in the commercial feel while in the it. The main character can act as if he is using the advertised product and feel happy about it. Advertisers tend to leave out some important details such as flaws of the products. They do this to gain more customers but they did not weigh in the fact that by doing this, it will lose their credibility and lose the trust of past customers. Therefore, I think that everyone should take some time and find out more about the product before purchasing them just to be on the safer side.

ReplyDeletethe advertisement that i am doing is the Anything/Whatever commercial. To start with,i will talk about what happens in the ad.Its starts of with a cashier at a small mama shop counting his money that he gained so far.At once, two gangsters enter the store and asks for anything. However the cashier does not understand what it is they want and he hands them items like money, toothbrush, lollipop and toilet paper.finally one of them blows and tries to attack the cashier, but the friend tries to hold him back.then he tries to ask for whatever.sadly the cashier still does not understand and ends up being beaten.
ReplyDeletethe colours that were used were dull but certain items like the gangsters clothing were bright coloured.colours are usually used to show a person environment and personality. If someone wears a bright yellow t-shirt,it is likely that he is a friendly person. In the commercial, one of the gangsters was wearing a black t-shirt with a picture of a skull on it.This obviously tells us that he is a gangster.but the other gangster is wearing a bright hawaiian shirt. This makes him look stupid and in a way,it insults a gangsters state of being feared. The background colour gives us the feeling of another day at work with its faint sunlight rays piercing through its windows showing a nice peacful day.
The dialogues try to be as vague as possible for the viewers to try to decipher the whole scenario.it also shows the intensity of the whole situation and it somehow reminds us viewers how we used to comment on a cashiers services.it somehow reflects a persons manner of response. The gangsters would speak in a rude and harsh manner whereas a cashier would sound soft and timid in fear.i find the commercial a little persuasive because it constantly mentions the drink to the cashier in frustation and therefore it tries to inject humour but it in a way also brainwashes the mind to buy the product.the sense of humour tries to make the viewers interested to buy the product. The title and slogan are usually featured at the end of the advertisement becaus eit wants the viewers to guess what it is all about, therefore making the viewers stay to find out the answer.Interestingly, the real humour is in the gangsters body language and reaction that is rarely noticed without prompting.Like for instance, why did the cashier hand the gangster a roll of toilet paper? To find the answer,we have to look at certain features and hidden messages. The cashier noticed that the gangster was resting his hand on his waist as if holding back his faeces. This gave the cashier the idea that he was holding back his customers from using the loo.But in actual fact, the gangster was fe up with the cashiers slow understanding of the product.it makes us tink,"wat would happen if I did this?".Then we would say,"man,i gotta try this!".this makes motivated to buy it and it is some form of action that can be committed at the nearest mini market, whereas other commercials show the humour in a specific location like the Petronas Towers, which is too far for us to experience.and since it shows us that we can do this at the nearest grocery store,we would like to experience this whole ordeal for ourselves! Therefore,i feel that this commercial was very well -planned
Colours play an important role in video commercials as they tend to portray the mood. If it has many bright colours, it means that it is in a happy mood. If it has many dull colours, it means that it is in an unhappy mood.
ReplyDeleteI think the positioning of objects, actors and text within the frame of a video is meant to achieve a particular effect as some objects are placed in areas where it stands out so that the viewer can spot it easily. Some texts in the video commercial may also be put in a large font so that viewers can also easily see it.
Dialogues make the commercial more interesting for viewers and also gives them a clearer idea of how the product works. Sometimes, if the person talking is talking too fast or talking in another language, producers would put subtitles so that viewers will know what the person is saying. Titles and slogans are most commonly shown at the end of a video commercial so that if viewers are interested in the product, they would have to watch the whole commercial first before finding out what the product is.
Body languages and expressions of the characters show us what their feelings are right at that moment. Some information like side effects are often withheld from us as advertisers want to attract more buyers, not scare off interested buyers by telling them of their product's side effects. So, very frequently, many advertisers tend to leave out their product's disadvantages in a video commercial.
Amanda Cheng (1)
I think that the colours in commercials should be bright and bold as these colours attracts the attention of the viewers much more than how dull and dark colours could. But, if the commercial is trying to potray something sad and emotional, they might use dull and dark colours as they will make the audience feel the sadness they are trying to show. I think the positioning of the objects within the frame of the video will have a particular effect. Example, like the main characters will be placed nearer to the camera to capture the attention of the viewers more compared to the other characters that is not as close to the camera. They might also place the text that is more important bigger so we can see it clearer. I think that the name of the product should also be easy to read and spell out as some elderly and foreigners' english is not as good. The name should also be displayed prominetly in the commercial so as not to let the viewers mistake it as not the name. The commercial must also show how the product will help us. Example, if the product is something that can help you slim down, they should put the before and after pictures so as to convince the viewers that it is effective. The title and the slogan should appear at the beginning and at the end of the commercial as we should let the viewers know what we are advertising about in the first place and they might forget about it at the end of the commercial. The product might also have some after effects, just that the commercial purposely left them out so we will not know and make us have the wrong impression of it.
ReplyDeleteNg Jia Jia (7)
When we look at a commercial we should look out for the colours as it plays an important part in the advertisements. Usually when a advertisement wants to depict sadness, disturbance or any other negative impacts that can be created on the viewers it uses dull and faint colours in order to bring out that kind of a feel within the viewers and if they want to create a happy or excited impact they use bright and attention grabbing colours! Just imagine you watching a advertisement which is supposed to have happiness and excitement filled with dark and dull colours. Not only in the words and the characters the background also should suite the advertisements. If it is a scene where there is a high impact of sadness the background should make the viewer feel it by giving it a moody background with a discouraging colour tone. If it is a happy moment in the scene then we can give it a more relaxed colour tone and a more flexibly expressive background complexion!
ReplyDeleteThe size and the positioning of characters and texts within the frame has a large space of exposure but yet there is also barriers like everything has. It will be better to limit the words as much as possible or better still letting the viewers visualize will be better. Usually we cant see the title of the ad. Permanently featured as after a short while it will kind of boring so its usually placed at the end of the commercial as it creates a suspense element within the viewers! In an video commercial it usually shows only the pros and they usually only release the great deals and offers but they do not show the consequences as that may neglect us from buying their product or using their services!!

ReplyDeleteColours play a important role in commercials as they are use to tell the surrounds and the mood of the actor/actress.Normally bright colours are use in commercials to attract people to view. Bright colours are use to show happiness while dull colours are use to show sadness.
ReplyDeleteYes,the positioning of objects, actors, and text within the frame of a video are meant to achieve a particular effect.
Example- the producer increase the front size of the wording like "buy 1 get 1 free" and "50% off" to attract viewer to buy the product. If the wording is too small , the viewer might not have notice it and they would not have buy the product .
A dialogue is not a must in a commercials .A dialogue is use when the producer wanted to make the commercial more specific
or add comedy to the commercial.
Title is the one which will make people to carry on reading or watching and make people wwant to find out more about it.Usually the front of the title is big so that it would people would be able to see the title from far and attract to it .The title and slogan usually appears at the end of the commercial so that viewers would be so captivated by the commercial that they ignore or don't really see the hidden messages in the title or slogan if there are any. A powerful and effective advertisements often have objects with hidden meaning to make people make assumptions and would want to know more after buying the product that has been promoted in the advertisement. The expressions normally reveal the mood of the actor/actress.Therefore the expression of the actor/actress is important to the commercial.

When the colours are loud, bright and bold, it tells us that the video is lively, comedic, fun.
ReplyDeleteWhen the colours are dull, it mostly conveys an important message.
The background varies.
The size of the objects also plays an important role. If a mouse appears larger than an elephant, it's most likely a comedy.
There were dialogues
There were few dialogues to create an impact. It's both engaging and funny.
The fonts are just big enough and easy to read.
The slogans usually appear at the back of the video.
Although it's funny, I won't buy it. They didn't promote the taste of the drink and they used gangsters to promote.
The cost and the packaging might affect my decision.
It shows "gangster-ism".
The taste is left out. The drink might be unpleasant to the consumer.
